Young Buck Brushes Off Old G-Unit Beefs
Young Buck’s split from G-Unit was big news earlier this year. But in a recent interview with MTV News, the rapper said he not only parted ways with the crew - but with their beefs with other rappers as well.
“I’m open to work with everybody,” Buck said in the interview. “At this point I’m seeing that a lot of people that I’ve had these so-called situations with… I’ve had a chance to bump shoulders, and it just ain’t that.”
Buck went on to elaborate on his comments by naming the rappers he’s now on good terms with.
“Jadakiss for one. The Dipset thing, Jim Jones, we all good,” he continued. “I got music with everybody, even from The Game situation. My whole thing is about collabing with those that’s looking to collab with me.”
When asked about Fat Joe and Terror Squad, Buck said that situation is dead in the water too.
“It is what it is. I haven’t had any conversations with Fat Joe. I’ve seen Khaled, we see each other, we ain’t had no conversations. But I’m right here, and they right there. It’s a respect thing.”
“I don’t carry no situations that was there with G-Unit at this point. It’s dead weight I’ve been carrying, and I’m sure G-Unit ain’t carrying none of my situations. [Now] it’s a clean slate.”
During a recent airing of his Fox News show, “The O’Reilly Factor,” the commentator blasted Nas’ free concert for the students of Virginia Tech (see “Nas, John Mayer, Dave Matthews To Headline Free Concert At Virginia Tech”) as an “abomination” and “atrocity.” O’Reilly referred to Nas — or “Nazz,” as the TV host pronounced it — as a “gangsta rapper” and said his lyrics are as “violent as they come,” citing songs such as “Shoot ‘Em Up,” “One Mic,” Ether” and “Made U Look” as his musical history of violence. (The show also displayed some of Nas’ concert footage and videos, plus the scene where Jay-Z gets shot in the video for “99 Problems.”) O’Reilly called Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger “a villain” for allowing Nas to perform.
Lil’ Wayne and B.G are both set to release new records in time for Christmas. However, B.G. says he isn’t worried about any sort of rivalry between his “Too Hood To Be Hollywood,” due Dec. 4, and Lil’ Wayne’s “Tha Carter III,” out Dec. 18. “My style has changed and I’ve grown as a person,” B.G. explains. “I was real open-minded when I made this record. I’ve got one of the best A&R [reps] in the business, Jean Nelson, and we’ve come up with a vision to make a classic album that’s going to go down in the hall of fame.” “I came in making the record that everybody said I wouldn’t be able to make,” says B.G., who won his long battle with drugs and has been clean for four years. “Now we got a hard but good problem of choosing which records to keep.” Mannie Fresh, Polow Da Don, Khao, Lil C, Scott Storch, Don Vito, Mr. Rogers, Bass Heavy and Nitti are among the producers that may make the “Too Hood To Be Hollywood” cut, and “I Hustle” featuring Young Jeezy and produced by the Justice League is an early standout. “I was still hot running records through Koch / now I’m on Atlantic looking for that No. 1 spot,” B.G. rhymes on “I Hustle,” referring to his 2006 split from Koch Records. Though he’s also affiliated with T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records, B.G. subsequently signed an Atlantic distribution deal for his own independent label, Chopper City. “T.I. is executive producing my album, but I ain’t signed to Grand Hustle,” B.G. says. His manager, Anel Pla, confirms that “Too Hood” will be released via Atlantic. “I expect Atlantic Records to go hard as I go,” B.G. insists. “I’m gonna give 150 percent.”
