The Game Heads To Trial
WestCoast rapper The Game has been ordered to stand trial for threatening to shoot an opponent during a basketball game this past June in Los Angeles.Game, who is free on 50,000 dollars bail, must face three felony charges following the incident. He is charged with making criminal threats, possession of a firearm in a school zone and exhibiting a firearm on the grounds of a facility for minors.
He was ordered to reappear at Los Angeles Superior Court for arraignment on September 25 following a preliminary hearing yesterday, September 4th, 2007.
If convicted, he could face more than five years in prison.
R. Kelly Trial Delayed Again
In semi-related news, R&B crooner R. Kelly can breathe easy for a little while longer. The hitmaker, who was to stand trial on September 17th on child pornography accusations, will now have to wait until an undetermined date to learn his fate.
According to MTV, Judge Vincent Gaughan had previously scheduled the trial date at a hearing on August 1, but changed his mind at a status hearing this past Tuesday, after taking into consideration that the lead prosecutor, Shauna Boliker, recently gave birth.
The criminal case, which has been pending for 5 years, has been plagued with a long series of postponements. The pre-trial phase alone has lasted longer than other celebrity trials, or even other child-pornography trials, which usually begin with a year or two of charges being filed.
If Kelly is convicted of the charges, he faces a prison term of up to 15 years and a fine of up to $100,000.
