Lil Wayne Named World’s Top Hip-Hop Artist, Answers Felony Charges

On Sunday (November 9) Lil Wayne added another accolade to his breakout 2008 year, as the World Music Awards crowned him the World’s Best Hip-Hop/Rap artist.
This year, the award show was held in Monte Carlo, Monaco and hosted by Desperate Housewives actor Jesse Metcalfe and former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams.

The annual ceremony has been in existence since 1988, and bases their selections on the worldwide sales figures of eligible artists per the London-based, recording industry entity IFPPI.

Under this criteria, the 3 million and counting worldwide sales of Tha Carter 3 propelled Wayne’s win over his peers and fellow nominees Kanye West and T-Pain.

The big achievement ended Wayne’s week on a positive note, after the star endured a vicious hoax and felony charges.

Early last week, Wayne refuted an online hoax that proclaimed the rapper had been killed in a New Orleans gang-related shooting.

In addition, Wayne appeared in Arizona Superior court on November 6 for a preliminary hearing on felony drug and weapon charges.

According to police records, a January 22 search of Wayne’s tour bus from border patrol DEA agents revealed four ounces or marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy, and a .40 caliber pistol registered to Wayne.

The star’s next scheduled court date is set for November 21.

Although still riding the success of “Mrs. Officer,” the seventh Billboard charting single from Tha Carter 3, Wayne has confirmed his next project as the Dedication III.

The mixtape will mark the third installment of his popular Gangsta Grillz series with DJ Drama.

At press time the Dedication III is set for release on November 14, and will feature appearances from Kanye West, T-Pain, Ludacris, Jae Millz, Willie Da Kid, and La the Darkman.

Lil Wayne announces he's having a son, and is releasing…Tha Carter III..?

ANTA — Weezy F. Baby is having another baby. Lil Wayne announced Saturday night during the BET Hip-Hop Awards that he’s having his first son in just a “couple of days.” He was onstage accepting the Lyricist of the Year Award when he told the crowd at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center of his impending bundle of joy.

Not even three quarters into the show, Wayne had already jumped on the stage with DJ Khaled and a community of friends to help his mouthy friend accept an award; joined Common, T-Pain and Busta Rhymes during N.E.R.D.’s “Spazz”; and won the People’s Champ Award. Another Weezy highlight was his collision of skills with T-Pain and Ludacris during “Can’t Believe It” and “Chopped & Screwed.”

With all this commotion, you’d think Wayne would be relishing the spotlight. Nah. He told MTV News earlier in the day he’d rather be in the studio.

Next on his plate is the release of a new album, Tha Carter III. Think it’s already out? You’re correct. However, the tireless New Orleans mic fiend says he’s dropping a new version of the album with all brand-new songs: He said clearly that the record is not — repeat not — Tha Carter IV.

Wayne also the MVP of the Year award, beating out Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, T.I. and Kanye West. He dedicated the award to his daughter.

Wayne’s final words when accepting the award were, “I got a son dropping any day, pray for me.”

Mike Jones Pegs July Release For ‘Voice Of The Streets’, Drafts Wayne & T-Pain.

Mike Jones recently revealed the official release date for his sophomore album titled Voice Of The Streets.

The Houston bred rapper divulged to BET.com last week that his oft-delayed album will hit shelves on July 7th.

He also revealed that the next single off the set will be “Cuddy Buddy” which features Twista, Lil Wayne and T-Pain.

“A ‘Cuddy Buddy’ is when a man and a woman are in a relationship and things aren’t working out like they supposed to, the woman veers off to go holler at her Cuddy Buddy,” Mike Jones explained. “She goes off to call me, she calls Twista, she calls T-Pain and she calls Lil’ Wayne. We got the Keith Sweat sample ‘How Deep Is Your Love,’ in there and it’s right man.”

As reported earlier, Voice Of The Streets will also feature appearances from Hurricane Chris, Chamillionaire, Krayzie Bone, Z-Ro, Lil Mo, Trey Songz, Pimp C and Bun B.

DJ Drama Has Advice For Mixtape DJs “Stop F**kin’ Makin’ Lil Wayne Tapes

DJ Drama Advises Mixtape DJ’s, “Stop F**kin’ Makin’ Lil Wayne Tapes Every Other Day”

DJ Drama is back and preparing for the release of his first official major label effort entitled, what else, Gangsta Grillz: The Album. SOHH caught up with the self-proclaimed “iPod King” as he discussed T.I.’s plans to keep his throne and his distaste for the current mixtape market.

Drama, who is not only Grand Hustle’s official DJ but a close, personal friend to T.I., says that he has been in contact with the label’s franchise player and CEO during his recent battle with the law. Drama says that the Atlanta rapper has been taking his current situation in stride and putting his time to good use.

“Yeah I talked to Tip the other day right before he put a video out. He was good and he was cooking dinner and everything. He got a lot of time on his hands so you know he’s in good spirits and everything,” Drama told SOHH exclusively.

“He was doing a lot of research,” Drama elaborated. “He was reading me something about TMZ, he saw even about his own case. So I think under the circumstances he’s definitely staying active and you know his spirits is up. And Tip is an old soul so he handles things very well. The judicial system has to do what they do. You know we’ll see what’s gon’ happen.”

He also said that the self-proclaimed “King Of The South” has been busy recording new material while on house arrest at his Atlanta-area home and that he feels that fans are going to appreciate the new songs that are slated to be a part of T.I.’s forthcoming album.

“Yeah he had just started working,” Drama said. “I had asked him if he had started recording. He was just writing right then [and] I’m sure you know that it’s definitely going to be something that people will be interested in. It’s going to come out crazy. ‘Cause you know right now it’s his main focus so I’m excited.”

The spin doctor, who’s made a name for himself throughout the South from the success of his “Gangsta Grillz” mixtape series also expressed his dislike with what he feels is an over saturation and lack of originality currently in the mixtape game.

“For the younger DJ’s or the ones that may not have the attention that DJ Drama has I would just say keep doing your thing and stop f**kin makin’ Lil Wayne tapes every other day,” Drama explained. “I mean just get creative you know? I mean it’s not a comment on Wayne. You know Wayne is feeding the people so of course people are definitely interested in him, but from a DJ’s perspective it’s like by you putting Lil’ Wayne on your cover every week and putting out the last songs that he’s had out for the last three months.”

DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz: The Album, featuring guest spots from T.I., Young Jeezy, Young Buck, Jim Jones, Rick Ross, Nelly, OutKast, Lil’ Wayne, Beanie Sigel and Clipse, among others, hits stores on December 4 via Grand Hustle/Atlantic.

Young Buck Admits To Messing Around With Lil Wayne’s Woman..

Young Buck is definitely all in with the G-Unit. He’s been working on their December release, Shoot to Kill, but Mr. Ten-A-Key is also working on his own compilation — Young Buck Presents: Product of the South.

“I’m establishing me right now,” he said of his Cashville Records. “I signed C-Bo from the West Coast, as well as my own group, 615 — that’s me, a cat by the name Lil’ Murder and High-C. I said, ‘I’ll drop a [compilation] album.’ … That’ll be the bridge to their project. Everybody is going to get a single and a video.”

Buck’s label is independent. “I’m sure you know these labels ain’t really giving a lot of money out to start a situation,” he explained. “What I did was create my own buzz pretty much promoting G-Unit South. I wanted to name my label G-Unit South, but I knew [Interscope Records Chairman] Jimmy [Iovine] wasn’t going to let any other label have the luxury of having the name G-Unit. … [So] I wanted to start something fresh, brand new, create a whole new brand.”

Buck released “Driving Down the Freeway” with the Outlawz and says he’s actually picking up jewels from them.

“It’s an even thing,” he said. “It’s more me being quiet and learning off of them sometimes. It’s things in the game they been through and I haven’t learned yet. It’s a learning process. They bring a lot to the table on their own. I’m just pretty much bringing their career more to the forefront. I feel that the Outlawz as well as C-Bo never got their just due.”

The unabashed Southerner feels the same way about himself. “I ain’t get what I deserved at Interscope,” he said. “I feel my album [Buck the World] is better than Kanye’s album * NO nigga*and 50’s album, but it’s one of the most slept-on albums due to whatever reason. I’m still trying to get what I deserve off of Interscope, so it’s still a hustle to me.”

Buck noted that he and 50 are on great terms, and when and if 50 leaves the ‘Scope for free agency, Buck and the rest of G-Unit will be with him.

“All of us are signed to G-Unit,” Buck said. “If 50 goes, we all go. I stand behind Interscope with all the power I can. I’m sure there’s a lot of people that put in as much work as they could for Young Buck and the G-Unit crew, but it’s a lot of people that won’t too. At the end of the day, I can only speak specifically on mine. As far as the marketing, I don’t think they knew how to market a project such as mine. When you have a song like ‘Get Buck’ and ‘You Ain’t Going Nowhere,’ there’s no lane. You can’t just market me to the South. I’m worldwide. I come with the Southern background but worldwide flow. They have to understand how big I aim outside of 50 Cent to get the push from them. I’m still in the shadow of 50 to them, but to the streets, I’m Young Buck. I’m my own person. I just gotta get my label to understand that part.”

Now to the scandalous: Everyone is quiet familiar with 50’s line in “Fully Loaded Clip,” in which he raps, “When Trina was telling [Lil] Wayne, ‘I love you, boo’/ She was running games, she told Buck that too.” Buck insists it’s all gospel.

“It’s the truth, it’s the f—ing truth! 50 is not f—ing lying,” Buck proclaimed. “You want me to tell you the truth? I’mma tell you the truth. I was messing with her while she was messing with [Wayne]. I would hear him on the phone [in the background] every now and then while she’s laying right there. She knows it. 50 ain’t doing nothing but speaking the truth.”

So what about Lil’ Kim? There is Internet footage of the Queen Bee grinding all over Young Buck onstage, then she has miraculously mended all beef with 50.

“She’s cool,” he downplayed, all of a sudden getting shy. “She came out onstage, hollered a couple of times. At the end of day, she’s doing her, and I’m doing me. … Ask Lil’ Kim what she thinks of Young Buck. What do I think of Lil’ Kim? She’s cool.”

He says the same about Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones. The two of them are cool in a way different way from him and Kim, of course, but cool nonetheless.

“I never had a problem with Jim Jones,” Buck said. “Jim Jones visited my city a long time ago and saw what type of individual I was. That was the bridge for 50 Cent to even say, ‘OK, I’mma see what’s up with Jim.’ Me and Jim was on the same page. Jim is about getting his paper, that’s what it really is about. It’s all about keeping it real too. That was my issue with Lil Wayne and all them: Keep it real with the real n—as. You come around stealing our swagger. What y’all see, the bling-bling and all that, they stole all that from Cashville. It’s hard for me to explain all this sh– because they know what the truth is. It’ll get more interesting as it goes.” …

Lil Wayne Offers Fans Two Versions Of The Carter III..

Lil Wayne fans will be getting two versions of The Carter III in the coming weeks.

According to MTV, Lil Wayne revealed he will release The Carter III:The Leak on December 18th and it will feature songs from the official The Carter III that leaked during the year. The official The Carter III will hit stores on February 12.

The Carter III: The Leak will include what Wayne called ‘bionic’ versions of songs like “Prostitute Flange” and “I Feel Like Dying”, which both generated a great buzz for The New Orleans bred rapper.

The official Carter III will include collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Kanye West.

“[The December 18 release] is gonna be called Tha Carter III, but it’s gonna be called The Leak as well because I get leaked so much,” Wayne explained.

“My music got leaked this whole year. One thing I noticed, when another person’s album gets leaked, it’s a whole thing; they’re distraught. When my song gets leaked, people call and say, ‘It’s the greatest song. Can I have it for this album?’ Or ‘Can I put it on this soundtrack? Can we get the ringtone?’ It’s never, ‘Damn, dude, your music leaked. So what we feel, we’re gonna give you what you want. We’re gonna give you the leak,”Wezzy continued.

“Every song that was leaked is coming out on December 18 — and we have four new songs,” Wayne clarified. “ The song ‘Gossip’ is gonna be the first single from that album. I’mma shoot the video for that in about a week.”

In related news, Wayne was hit with a l awsuit earlier this week by a New Orleans based jeweler who claims the rapper failed to fully compensate for two pieces of jewelry.

Jeweler Jack Sutton claims Wayne purchased a $138,000 diamond ring and a $32,000 gold-and-diamond necklace from him on October 6, 2006 and to date, the rapper has only paid $24,000 for the pieces.

B.G. Talks New Album And Lil Waynes

b.g rapper photo pictureLil’ Wayne and B.G are both set to release new records in time for Christmas. However, B.G. says he isn’t worried about any sort of rivalry between his “Too Hood To Be Hollywood,” due Dec. 4, and Lil’ Wayne’s “Tha Carter III,” out Dec. 18. “My style has changed and I’ve grown as a person,” B.G. explains. “I was real open-minded when I made this record. I’ve got one of the best A&R [reps] in the business, Jean Nelson, and we’ve come up with a vision to make a classic album that’s going to go down in the hall of fame.” “I came in making the record that everybody said I wouldn’t be able to make,” says B.G., who won his long battle with drugs and has been clean for four years. “Now we got a hard but good problem of choosing which records to keep.” Mannie Fresh, Polow Da Don, Khao, Lil C, Scott Storch, Don Vito, Mr. Rogers, Bass Heavy and Nitti are among the producers that may make the “Too Hood To Be Hollywood” cut, and “I Hustle” featuring Young Jeezy and produced by the Justice League is an early standout. “I was still hot running records through Koch / now I’m on Atlantic looking for that No. 1 spot,” B.G. rhymes on “I Hustle,” referring to his 2006 split from Koch Records. Though he’s also affiliated with T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records, B.G. subsequently signed an Atlantic distribution deal for his own independent label, Chopper City. “T.I. is executive producing my album, but I ain’t signed to Grand Hustle,” B.G. says. His manager, Anel Pla, confirms that “Too Hood” will be released via Atlantic. “I expect Atlantic Records to go hard as I go,” B.G. insists. “I’m gonna give 150 percent.”

Weezy Sued For $1 Mil - Foxy’s In PC

Lil Wayne picture photoLil’ Wayne is being sued by a teenage fan who claims she was hurt at one of his concerts. Tyrique Layne claims she lost consciousness and sustained serious and extensive injuries at the Morgan State University concert last year after Weezy and his entourage threw a large sum of money into the audience, causing the crowd to surge toward the stage. She also states that she suffers from memory loss and difficulty concentrating as well as frequent and severe headaches.Layne’s suit also mentions Universal Records Inc., Cash Money Records Inc., and Young Money Touring, who she claims should have anticipated the crowd’s reaction due to their extensive experience with concerts.

Foxy’s In PC

Previously incarcerated inmates, Teresa Pandolfo and Donalay Thomas, stated to The New York Post that recently jailed Foxy Brown is kept isolated and is desperate for human contact. They also explained that they were threatened by jail guards not to look or talk to Brown, who spends her days in a cell reading the bible and complaining about her hair weave.Thomas went on to also say that when her and other inmates passed by Brown’s cell while heading for recreation time, Brown would bang on the door saying , “I want to go to rec, too!”

“She’s alone all day, every day,” Thomas explained. “They’re just keeping her away from everybody.” The former inmates also revealed that Brown heats up Ramen noodles on a hot plate in her room and washes them down with orange soda bought from the jail commissary.

A spokesman for the City Correction Department told The Post that Brown is forced to take her meals and recreation time by herself because of security reasons.
